Terms of Use
The short version
Korean with Lemming is a reading and language-learning tool in free beta. By using it, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. We will treat you fairly; in return, please use the Service responsibly and do not misuse it. If something here does not work for you, the simplest remedy is to stop using the Service.
The Service
“Service” means the Korean with Lemming website, web application, APIs, and related features (including the browser extension when we make it available). We may add, change, or remove features, run maintenance, or pause access when we need to. We will try to give reasonable notice for disruptive changes, but during beta things can move quickly.
Who may use it
You need to be old enough to agree to these Terms where you live. If you are under 13, please do not use the Service. If you use it on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are allowed to bind that organisation to these Terms.
Accounts
Some features need an account (for example sign-in with Google or Discord). Keep your login secure and do not share access in a way that lets strangers use your account. You are responsible for activity that happens under your account unless we failed badly on our side to protect it.
Acceptable use
Please use the Service in the spirit it is built for. In particular, do not:
- Use it for anything illegal, harassing, or harmful
- Try to break, overload, or scrape the Service in ways that stress our systems without permission
- Circumvent access controls or exploit vulnerabilities without permission (if you think you have found a security issue, please tell us first so we can fix it)
- Misrepresent who you are, or use another person’s account without permission
When you analyse text on third-party websites, you are still responsible for following those sites’ rules and copyright. We do not control the pages you choose to read.
Text you send us
To analyse Korean text, run the Reader, or sync vocabulary, your content may be sent to our servers. You keep your intellectual property rights. You give us a limited licence to host, process, store, and display that content only as needed to run, secure, and improve the Service for you and other users (for example morphology, definitions, and learning state). That licence lasts until you delete the relevant content or close your account, except where we keep a copy because the law requires it.
Our rights
The Service, its branding, code, and documentation belong to us or our licensors. Please do not copy our product to compete with us, sell access to our systems, or remove notices. If we offer open-source components, those parts follow their own licences.
Third-party services
Sign-in and hosting rely on other companies (such as Google, Discord, or Hetzner). Their terms and privacy policies apply to what they do. We are not responsible for their services, but we choose providers we believe are reputable.
Beta, accuracy, and availability
The Service is experimental. Morphology, dictionary entries, and translations can be wrong or incomplete. We hope it helps you learn; it is not a substitute for professional advice, formal instruction, or certified translation. We do not promise uninterrupted access or that any feature will stay the same.
Liability
We care about building a reliable product. Still, to keep a free beta sustainable, you agree that we are not liable for lost profits, lost data, or other indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim related to the Service is limited to the greater of fifty US dollars (USD 50) or the amounts you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim (if you have not paid us, that amount is zero, so the cap is USD 50). These limits do not apply where the law says they cannot.
Suspension and termination
We may suspend or end access if you seriously breach these Terms or if we need to for legal or security reasons. You may stop using the Service at any time. Provisions that naturally survive (such as limits on liability for past events) continue after you leave.
Changes
We may update these Terms. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and refresh the “Last updated” date. For meaningful changes, we may also email you or show a notice in the Service. If you keep using the Service after the new Terms take effect, that counts as acceptance. If you disagree, you should stop using the Service.
General
These Terms together with the Privacy Policy are the main agreement between you and us about the Service. If one part is invalid, the rest stays in effect. We may assign our side of the agreement in connection with a merger, sale, or reorganisation.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea. If a disagreement comes up, we will try to sort it out in good faith before anything formal. Nothing here limits rights the law says you cannot give up—including consumer rights where you live.
